Qwest has been advertising that they now offer free wifi connectivity at various wifi hotspots for their DSL customers. In Portland, I can often find a free wifi hotspot anyway, but there are places where it's not available, especially out here in East County.
Today I decided to give the Qwest Wifi a try at the NE 102nd and Halsey Starbucks (Starbucks is one of the main places where Qwest has hotspots). It works just fine! It took a little time to get on the network, but since then, it's been smooth sailing (I'm posting from there now).
To access the network, you'll connect to "QwestWiFi" (how you do that depends on your computer). Then, open your browser. You should get a screen asking you to sign in to Qwest; you can just use your username and login from Qwest.com, or your home phone number and the three-digit code from your bill. I don't get a paper bill any more, so I used my username and password. Don't forget to check the box stating that you agree to the terms and conditions.
And that's it! You'll have smooth surfing from there on. Plus mmmm, pumpkin bread and coffee (not free)!
