New Park Coming To Gateway in 2013

If you've gone past the old J.J. North's Restaurant site near NE 106th and Halsey recently, you've probably noticed that the building is gradually being demolished. You may also have heard that this site will be developed as a community park! This was first reported several months ago. The Portland Development Commission has a lot of work to do on the site first, though.

The PDC also has to complete an environmental cleanup on part of the site where a dry cleaning business once stood. They've received a $200,000 grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency toward this cleanup. According to the PDC's most recent press release, the cleanup will be completed in 2009-2010, and park development will take place 2011-2013.

More information about the park project is available at http://www.pdc.us/gatewaypark.
