As at many schools, Sacramento Elementary could use more parent participation, both in the PTO and in supporting their kids in reading. This Thursday, they'll address both issues with one event.
Reading in the Moonlight will take place on Thursday, November 6 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Sacramento Elementary, 11400 NE Sacramento Street. Families are invited to bring a blanket and pillow to enjoy free hot cider and books together. There will also be a free book giveaway.
The monthly PTO meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. Free childcare will be provided, and all parents are encouraged to attend.
I'll be there with my family. See you there?

No, not Critical Mass -- this is Kidical Mass, a family-friendly bike ride through our neighborhood.
Kidical Mass began in April 2008 in Eugene, and quickly spread to Portland as well. Rides are held on the third Friday of each month at various locations around Portland. October 17th marks the debut of Kidical Mass in the outer NE area, right here at Knott Park.
Riders will gather near the baseball field at NE 112th and Russell at 6:00 p.m. for a brief safety talk, and we'll hit the road at 6:15. It'll just be a brief ride on neighborhood streets. It looks like it won't actually be dark yet, but we'll have some loaner safety lights available just in case.
Riders of all ages should wear helmets. Participants are welcome to use a scooter or walk/jog along as well. We'll have a sweeper cyclist in the rear to make sure no one gets left behind.
And if you'd like to decorate your bike in honor of Halloween, or wear a costume, you are welcome to do that, too! Let's make a splash here in NE Portland!

Tuesday, October 14 is the last day to register to vote in Oregon. If you haven't registered yet, Parkrose Community United Church of Christ will be doing voter registration on Monday, October 13 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, and from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The church is located at NE 105th and Wygant.
You can also get a voter registration form from the Secretary of State's website and drop it off or mail it to the Multnomah County Elections Office at 1040 SE Morrison Street, Portland, OR 97214. Registrations are accepted as long as they are postmarked no later than October 14.
If you're not sure whether you are registered (or whether you are registered at your current address), you can check that online, too. Remember, you do need to re-register when you move, especially since ballots are mailed directly to you.
Ballots are mailed out 18 days before the election.
